It has been a busy week for Austin’s transit community after Mayor Adler hinted last Tuesday at a possible bond referendum for I-35. While specifics of this referendum have not been addressed, it appears likely that local money would be applied toward capital projects as part of TxDOT’s Mobility35 plans.
NCINC2 recently addressed concerns regarding some of these projects with a Resolution in Support of a Long-Range Vision for IH35 Without Upper Decks. NCINC2 supports east-west connectivity, neighborhood stakeholders and viable transportation alternatives and modes.
Moving forward, we believe it is essential that local money not be used to try to “build our way out of congestion” and we hope to work with local leadership to produce a referendum that support the needs of all Austinites, whether on foot, on bike, on transit or in cars.
