NCINC2 Resolution calls for long-range vision plan for IH35 Upper Decks

NCINC2 delegates approved this week a Resolution Supporting a Long-Range Vision for IH35 without Upper Decks.  This Resolution comes in response to the latest TxDOT plans unveiled in June that call for the addition of auxiliary lanes to the existing Upper Decks.  NCINC2 delegates first expressed concern over the TxDOT plans for the Upper Decks, particularly as this plan came as a surprise after years of TxDOT insisting that the Upper Decks could not structurally accommodate additional lanes of travel. UT CTR Mobility35 Dynamic Traffic Modeling Report

At a May Open House, officials from TxDOT and representatives from the UT Center for Transportation Research shared the results of a Dynamic Traffic Modeling Report that modeled traffic scenarios for proposals at 51st street and the proposed northbound off-ramp serving 38 1/2 Street.  The report is available in its entirety here:  May_2015_Presentation_TxDOT – updated_v11a

This modeling report comes at the the request of NCINC2 Member Neighborhood Cherrywood.

NCINC2 Letter to TxDOT re the Mobility35 Capital Area Improvement Plan, 26 May 2015

Dear Ms. Lorenzini and Messrs. Webber, Malatek, and McCoy,

On July 26, 2014 the North Central I-35 Neighborhood Coalition 2 (NCINC2) delivered a letter to TxDOT outlining a series of responses to the Mobility35 Capital Area Improvement Plan on behalf of our constituent neighborhoods. In this letter, we voiced our broad-based positions regarding the Mobility35 Segment 4 impacts on neighborhood accessibility and connectivity, bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure and safety, ramp access to and from IH35, development projections for the corridor, alternate routes and traffic studies, future rail compatibility and air quality and noise pollution. This letter was acknowledged by TxDOT representatives but we have to date received no response regarding our positions. NCINC2 Asks TxDOT to Form North Central Stakeholder Group for Mobility 35 Plans

Following the May 1st neighborhood workshop with TXDOT and North Central neighborhood stakeholder representatives and the June 26th resolution from City Council supporting a stakeholder group for Segment 4 of the I-35 Capital Area Improvement Plan (CAIP) Mobility35 Plan, the North Central I-35 Neighborhood Coalition 2 (NCINC2) including delegates of Blackland, Cherrywood, Delwood II, Eastwoods, Hancock, Mueller, Ridgetop, Mt. NCINC2 Joins City of Austin in Calling on TxDOT to Form a Stakeholders Working Group for Segment 4 of I-35 Capital Area Improvement Program

Following its recognition by Austin City Council as a stakeholder in the I-35 Capital Area Improvement Program (CAIP) process, the North Central I-35 Neighborhood Coalition 2 (NCINC2) announced today that it joins the City in calling upon TxDOT to develop a City-cosponsored stakeholder working group for Segment 4 of the Mobility35 Capital Area Improvement Plan (CAIP). NCINC2 has previously stated that such a working group should be composed of City officials, TxDOT, and representatives of businesses, organizations, institutions and neighborhoods that will be affected by changes proposed to I-35 between Airport Boulevard and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. TxDOT to Hold Open Houses in Early June

TxDOT will host three open house style public meetings in early June to discuss the proposed capacity improvements to I-35 between SH 45N and SH 45SE in Travis County.  The closest meeting to the NCINC2 area is on Tuesday, June 3, 5-7:30 p.m. at Kealing Middle School (1607 Pennsylvania Ave., Austin, TX 78702).
